Melis Sümengen Özdenefe was born in 1987 in Nicosia. She graduated from high school (19 Mayıs Türk Maarif Koleji in Kyrenia) in 2005. She received her B.Sc. degree in Biology from Cukurova University, Turkey in 2009 and M.Sc. and PhD. Degrees in Biology from Cukurova University in 2011 and 2014, respectively. During M.Sc. she has been in Anhalt University, Germany for six months as an International Exchange Student (ERASMUS) in 2010-2011. In 2014, She began working as a doctor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Near East University. In August 2016, She became an assistant professor. Her teaching and research interests include Industrial Microbiology, Bacteriology, Biotechnology and Microbial Ecology.
