Assoc. Prof. Dr. Filiz AlShanableh, born in 1965 in Ordu, Turkey, received her bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Middle East Technical University in 1992, and that same year joined the Faculty of Engineering at Near East University as a lecturer. She completed her master’s in International Relations at Near East University in 1996, as well as a master’s in Electrical and Electronics Engineering with a study on "ANN-based product quality prediction for crude oil distillation units" and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering focused on "Characterization of cold flow properties of biodiesel transesterified from waste frying oil." At Near East University, she worked in the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department from 1992 to 2000, in the Mechanical Engineering Department from 2000 to 2018, and continues in the Materials Science and Nanotechnology Engineering Department as a full-time faculty member. She also served as Coordinator of General Chemistry Courses (1992-2012), Coordinator of the Food Engineering Department (2010-2014), and in 2018, as Coordinator of the Double Major-Minor Program in the Faculty of Engineering. Her research interests include biodiesel production and characterization from various sources, along with the application of optimization and computational techniques such as fuzzy logic, ANN, and ANFIS in engineering processes. She currently serves as an Assoc. Prof. in the Department of Materials Science and Nanotechnology Engineering, and is married with four children.
